Texting a contact
What you need before you can text, and the consent rules.
Texting needs two things: a number to send from, and permission to send.
The number
Settings → SMS. Either your platform provider gives you a number, or you connect your own account.
The permission
The CRM will not text somebody who has not agreed to it. This is not the CRM being fussy — in most countries texting a customer without consent is against the law, and the fines are per message.
On each contact there is a consent panel. Record consent when you get it, and note where it came from.
If somebody replies STOP, they are marked as opted out immediately and automatically. Nothing you do in the CRM will text them again until they reply START. That is deliberate, and it protects you.
Sending
From a contact's page, the Text messages panel. Their replies arrive back in the same place.
A contact with no mobile number shows an "Add a phone number" button instead of a composer. Adding one there takes you straight to the right field.
