Filling in a company without typing it

Read a company's address, phone and trade off their own website.

Open any company and use Look this company up.

How it finds them

Usually it already knows where to look — from the website on the record, or from the email addresses of the people who work there. bob@acmeroofing.com says where Bob works. Personal addresses like Gmail are ignored, because they say nothing about an employer.

If there is nothing to go on, type their web address.

What you get back

The name, address, phone number, website and what kind of business it is — read from what the business publishes about itself.

Nothing is saved until you say so. You see a comparison: what the CRM has now, what was found, and a tick box for each field. Blank fields are ticked ready to fill. Fields that *disagree* with something already saved start unticked, because a published listing can be out of date and the number your colleague typed may well be the better one.

Linking a contact to their employer

On a contact with a work email and no company, there is a Works at …? Link them button. It looks for an existing company on that domain first, and only creates one if there isn't — which is what stops the same business appearing three times under three spellings.
